10/28/27 Friday night 10:05 P.M. My own dear Sweetheart, Received your wonderfully nice letter last night and your card, which carried such good news, tonight. Burrel and Jo went over to Woodward this afternoon and saw Woodward get beat by Cherokee in football. We broke the record today in deposits. Our deposits totaled around $45,000.00 today. Hal Cooper deposited $41,866.60. If we could have only gotten a call today we could have shown them a statement. I am enclosing May State Bank and you can compare it with ours in the Supply Republican. Return these to me so I can file it. We only owe $5,000.00 now secured by Liberty Bonds. I have been sending out notices today and tonight. Going to keep right on cutting down on loans. Keep insisting on selling surplus cattle. Cattle are sure high. In fact they are so high it is beginning to get dangerous. I won't make a cattle loan – that is a new one. It has been windy as can be today. I think a change is due in the weather. However we are beginning to need rain up here. Wheat is up good though now. Need rain though before it will do to pasture. I met Sarah and Ella at train yesterday. Ella stood the trip fine. Daddy stayed with them and so I was all alone last night. A little lonesome but still it is only really you that I miss – you and Boys and Maxine. Tell Maxine to just learn up to the 6's and ( for ) now. Learn them all up to there and keep saying these over once each day and she will get them good then. Bless her little brave heart. She sure wants to do her best for her Daddy. I am so glad Sam is doing so well in his schoolwork. I am sure proud of it. Prof. Smith said to tell him that he was going to write him a real letter right soon; also will get his grades to them. He and Titus are working up a record of all grades and they are going to keep them in our Bank Vault. I am sorry to learn that Donald's ankles are giving out on him. Tell him I said for him to cut out that cross country runs. That is too hard for anyone. It was pitiful to see the poor boys coming in at Manhattan. 4 or 5 of them just barely staggered in and one boy collapsed just in front of us and they had to have a Doctor. He was never able to make it. That run is too strenuous and it might eliminate him from any other athletics. Let him keep up his basketball practice. I am anxious to see his grades. I hope he makes it all OK. However if he is working and yet he should fail I am still for him but I sure do not want any failures caused by loafing on the job. I sure wish you could be here Monday for Callie Pratt party. They have all been asking me if you could come and if you would. I am glad that it will suit you for Nov. 12. I also want you to try and get your mother to come back and let you attend the Women Club meet at Tulsa for then you can see Ethyl. Try and make it. I will sure be glad if you can. Well goodnight dear Dearie. Love to you, Maxine and Boys. Gee I wish I could see you. Ever Your Boy |
